Services

The ITaP Instructional design team works in collaboration with Digital Education to design and develop online courses.

Individual Consultation: We work around your schedule to evaluate your course and how the online mode can enhance both the instruction and learning for your students. In collaboration with other instructional units we assist you in learning more about technology tools available at Purdue.

Content Analysis: Our team will work with you to analyze your current classroom content. From this, we offer strategies that will tailor the content for effective online delivery.

Learning Outcomes: We support you in development of clear and measurable learning goals and objectives for your course.

Course Design: Working with you, we offer design strategies that incorporate streamlined content, emerging teaching technologies, effective course organization and communication.

Development of Course Assessments: Our team will collaborate with you to develop authentic learning assessments, which will foster student critical thinking without compromising the integrity of the course assessments.

Suzanne Ahlersmeyer is an instructional designer in the Course Design and Development group of ITaP Teaching and Learning Technologies. Prior to joining ITaP, Suzanne managed the training and service desk for the Purdue Student Services TRAX project, developed and delivered instructional materials on the OnePurdue project and provided in-house training for staff and faculty. She also assisted in course development and taught OLS 375 as an adjunct faculty for a number of semesters. She has been active in instructional groups within the Committee on Institutional Cooperation (CIC), Blackboard World conferences, Purdue accessibility projects, the Purdue IMPACT project, and course design and development for credit / non-credit hybrid and online courses for Purdue University. Suzanne holds a Master of Science in Education Degree in Instructional Design and Adult Education from Purdue University.

Sheree Buikema Sheree Buikema

Sheree Buikema is an instructional designer on the Course Design and Development team within ITaP’s Teaching and Learning Technologies group. Sheree was previously an Educational Technologist on the Innovations in Teaching and Learning team, where she assisted faculty in the pedagogical integration of new technologies, such as the eText Program and LON-CAPA. She has designed and taught several courses for Purdue’s GERI program and continues to work with Purdue’s IMPACT program, where she assists faculty in redesigning their courses to improve student learning gains through a student-centered learning environment. Sheree holds a Master of Education degree through the Curriculum, Technology, and Education Reform (CTER) program at the University of Illinois Urbana/Champaign.

Jeff Chicki is an Instructional Design Specialist on the Course Design and Development team within ITaP’s Teaching and Learning Technologies. Jeff has previously worked with Purdue’s Indiana Science Initiative as a STEM educator, and also served as a technology integration coach. As a technology integration coach, Jeff assisted faculty with redesigning their instruction through implementation of strong pedagogy and integration of technologies that enhance teaching and learning. Jeff has presented at both state (ICE) and national (FETC) educational technology conferences hoping to positively impact teaching and learning over wide spread audiences. In his current position, Jeff enjoys working with faculty to understand the specific barriers they are faced with in regards to teaching and learning, and developing creative solutions to enhance the educational experience for both faculty and students. Jeff holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Natural Resources and Environmental Management from Ball State University, a teacher’s license in Biology, and is currently working towards a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Educational Technology.

Tuhin Dey Tuhin Dey

Tuhin Dey is an instructional designer in the Course Design and Development (CDD) group within Purdue ITaP's Teaching and Learning Technologies. Prior to joining Purdue, Tuhin had worked at the University of Houston's College of Natural Science and Mathematics IT (UH-NSMIT), where he closely worked with many faculty members and students. Tuhin has experience in developing and designing various online and hybrid courses for both undergraduate and graduate courses. Additionally, Tuhin has been involved in the creation of educational multimedia, especially for the projects funded by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) to increase student success. Tuhin has previously taught graduate students as a lecturer. He is currently pursuing a Doctoral degree in Education with a focus on Learning, Design and Technology and working on finishing his dissertation. Tuhin is a strong supporter of active learning and integration of educational technology to support pedagogy.

Mel Edwards is an instructional designer on the Course Design and Development team within ITaP's Teaching and Learning Technologies group. Mel was previously a Curriculum Coordinator at Montana State University-Northern where she was part of the TAACCCT III grant embedding competency-based credentials into pre-existing and new courses. She is a Quality Matters peer reviewer, and presented digital badging solutions during Quality Matters' regional and national conferences. Mel holds a Master of Arts degree in Education with an emphasis in storytelling from East Tennessee State University and has been a faculty member in higher education and K12.

Dr. Wanju Huang is an instructional designer on the Course Design and Development team within ITaP's Teaching and Learning Technologies group. Prior to joining Purdue University in Fall 2016, Wanju was a lecturer and an instructional designer at Eastern Kentucky University. She is a certified Quality Matters Peer Reviewer. Wanju enjoys collaborating with faculty to design online and blended courses. She strives to transfer faculty's expertise and teaching philosophy in different learning contexts and enhance students' learning experiences. She has published and presented research papers related to online learning and instructional design at national and international conferences. She holds a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction with a concentration in Technology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Andrew C. Hurt, Ph.D. is an instructional designer in the Course Design and Development group of ITaP's Teaching and Learning Technologies department. Andrew enjoys collaborating with Digital Education, the Center for Instructional Excellence, and the Purdue faculty in designing and redesigning courses to improve student learning at Purdue. Andrew has designed numerous courses for face-to-face, blended, and fully online course environments. He has an extensive teaching resume having served as the instructor of record for 13 different courses across two different institutions of higher learning. Previously, Andrew served seven years as a faculty member in the Purdue Polytechnic Institute. Andrew has earned a Bachelor of Science in Organizational Leadership and Supervision from Purdue University, a Master of Science in Technology from Purdue University, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Human Resource Development from Texas A&M University.

James is an Instructional Design Specialist on the Course Design and Development team within IT@P's Teaching and Learning Technologies. James has previously worked in the development of corporate training, and is especially interested in the ways that technology can be utilized to support learning for a wide range of learners and subject matter. James is currently in the pursuit of a Master's of Science in Education degree with an emphasis on Learning Design and Technology.

Debra Runshe is an instructional designer in the Course Design and Development group of Teaching and Learning Technologies, ITaP. Deb assists faculty in addressing complex teaching and learning issues relating to teaching methods, assessment, and the use of instructional technology. Her dedication to quality teaching has led to her involvement in many national endeavors. As a member of the Carnegie Foundation’s CASTL Program: Scholarly Inquiry about Active Pedagogies cluster group, Deb explored active learning pedagogies in universities across the nation. She has been involved in several grant projects funded by: Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education (FIPSE), National Science Foundation (NSF), and Department of Education (DOE) focused on a variety of pedagogical and instructional technology topics. Deb holds a Master of Science in Education from Indiana University.

Erica Vail is an Instructional Designer in ITaP’s Teaching and Learning Technologies unit. She enjoys partnering with Digital Education to expand online course offerings. She has a history of providing support for online faculty and students and for casting a vison for continuous, strategic innovations in the area of distance education. Erica is from Scranton, Pennsylvania. Prior to coming to Purdue, she was the Director of Educational Technology at Baptist Bible College & Seminary of Clarks Summit, Pennsylvania. She also co-taught the online EDCI672 course for Purdue University. Erica holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Human Development from the Pennsylvania State University and a Master of Science in Education Degree in Learning Design and Technology from Purdue University.
